Ok so Happy New Year!
We had a very quiet New Years Eve here at the Suzaki Household, but it had a japanese feel to it, so I was happy!
It was very cold, so we were all wearing our "under-garments" gotta wear your thermals (and slippers)!!
It started with Dinner... like usual amazing food!
In Japan it is traditional to eat Soba Noodles and tempura... so we did! Although traditionally they have cold soba noodles that you dip into a soup. Chisa didn't think I would like that, so i had my Noodles Hot.
Then we watched the Japanese singing competition, it's boys v's girls... very entertaining! Most of the performers were singing in Japanese, but there were a couple in English. Then I called my Mumma and the whole family, minus Mei, decided to join in on the conversation, which I am sure Mum loved! Whilst on skype to Mum... I received a very excited phone from a very close friend back in Australia who had just been proposed to! I was so excited I cried!! I am soo happy for the couple, who I have known for many, many years now and can't wait for a Wedding!! Woohooo....
The Singing concert went until Midnight... then at 12am... after the fact that there was no countdown... we all rugged up and braved the cold to visit a Shinto Shrine. There were hundreds of other people doing the same thing, so we joined the line and waited our turn. Once at the start of the line three people at a time are allowed tostep forward, ring the bell, bow twice and make a pray.... After you have prayed there is Hot Sweet Sake wating for you and a bonfire you can warm up infront of!
Ending the eveing at the local Shrine :)
It was a very lovely evening, different to previous New Years Eve, but still wonderful!
xx
