Nabe.. pronounced "Na beh"

Nabe is the term given to a cooking style when one pot is used and many ingredients are added to the pot. Traditionally the Japanese used to use a clay pot, or made from thick cast iron. Nowadays they use large pots, with an appliance plugged into the power point, allowing the pot to cook the ingredients inside evenly… The pot is placed in the middle of the table, giving all members sitting at the table access to the pot. Because you do not want to overcook anything, ingredients for the Nabe are placed on the table and are added moments before you are about to eat them. This also allows the Diners to choose what they would like cooked in the Nabe. The Broth is also part of the dish.
Shota’s family own an electric Nabe pot and surprised me with Nabe for dinner one night.

After Dinner we always have Dessert... this is something I can get used to!

However, we generally share the Desserts. Sometimes we will have individual portions of something, like apple cake (we had that once, it was yummo) but most of the time we share :) Also it means we get to try everything... There are six members currently living in the Suzaki household (including me) so Chisa just buys random numbers of treats, but it doesn't matter because we share. Oh so funny story. There was a piece of cake left for me last nyt, but I couldn't fit it in... so it was "saved" for me in the fridge. Well anyway after lunch today Shota asked if I wanted any of it, I didn't, but it was a little late anyway...Shota, his Mother and his Brother were already underway "sharing" (more like demolishing) this tiny piece of cake!! At laeast they offered...

The portions become tiny... but I think its great! It means you still eat Dessert, but you are eating tiny portions.... so good for the waistline too! Win/Win really!
